A few weeks back, I made what I thought was a solid investment, spending a hefty $6,500 on a registered Black Angus bull. I was excited and eager to see him in action with my herd, anticipating he would enhance my cattle operation. After all, a well-bred, strong bull like this one should have been worth every penny. So, full of expectation, I introduced him to my cows, confident that I was about to witness some serious results.
However, things didn’t go quite as planned. To my surprise and growing concern, instead of showing any interest in the cows, the bull simply wandered around aimlessly, grazing on the grass, completely indifferent to the females in the herd. He didn’t even glance their way. Day after day, it was the same story—no activity, no interest, just a bull enjoying his pasture. I started to question whether my expensive purchase was worth it. Had I made a mistake? Was this bull too passive or even incapable of breeding? My initial excitement quickly turned into worry.

Frustrated and worried about whether I’d wasted my money, I called in the vet for a checkup. I needed answers—fast. After a thorough examination, the vet assured me that the bull was in excellent health, showing no signs of any physical issues. According to him, the bull was just a bit young and might need some time to get going. But I was impatient; I couldn’t afford to wait for nature to take its course. I needed my investment to pay off sooner rather than later. So, the vet offered a solution: a bottle of pills, recommending that I give the bull one a day to help spark his interest in the cows.
Skeptical but willing to try anything at this point, I followed the vet’s instructions and started giving the bull the pills. To my amazement, within just two days, the bull’s behavior completely transformed. It was as if someone had flipped a switch. Suddenly, the once-lazy bull sprang into action—and I mean full-on action. He went from grazing peacefully to energetically servicing every cow in my herd, one after the other. There was no stopping him. I could hardly believe the dramatic change.
